St. Therese Catholic School and Deephaven Woods Senior Living share the same beautiful campus, allowing students regular opportunities to spend time with their "Grandfriends".  As middle school students and seniors share memories, class projects and time together an unmistakable bond forms that transcends generations. Children learn to think beyond their small worlds. Seniors feel a new sense of purpose. For kids who don't live near their own grandparents, this connection can be especially poignant and meaningful.

BENEFITS FOR STUDENTS

Children, including teenagers, benefit greatly from Intergenerational interactions. For example, they gain compassion, patience, communication skills, and a desire to give back to their community. They also learn life lessons, become less scared to talk to older adults, and gain immense respect the older generation.

BENEFITS FOR GRANDFRIENDS

Seniors gain a renewed sense of self-worth and companionship. Middle School student’s visits and interactions keep them active and gives them something to look forward too. Seniors also get to become role models and children help them remember their past.

We are blessed to have our Grandfriends on the St. Therese School campus. Whether it’s singing Christmas carols together, learning from life experiences, or forming friendships, our Grandfriends provide another enriching opportunity at St. Therese.
