Health & Safety

From providing convenient care to ensuring the mental and physical well-being of our students, we are committed to the healthy development of the whole child.

Our school nurse

Our Health Paraeducator/School Nurse cares for students through the school day. Reach the health office at health@st-therese.org, or call the attendance line at 651-362-6409 to report an absence or illness. When the health office is unavailable and a question is urgent, Minnetonka District Health Services can be reached at 952-401-5992.

Illness, medication and emergencies

Students with a fever of 100°F or higher, vomiting or diarrhea stay home. They return once they have been fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication, 24 hours have passed since the last episode, and they feel well enough for the school day. Please report contagious illnesses such as strep throat, pink eye, influenza or head lice to the health office; an unexplained rash needs a doctor’s clearance before a student returns.

Medications are given at home whenever possible. When medication must be kept at school, it stays in the health office in its original labeled container. Prescription medications require a doctor’s and a parent’s signature; over-the-counter medications require a parent’s signature. Students may not carry medication, though middle school students may be evaluated to carry their own inhaler. A student with a life-threatening allergy needs an Emergency Action Plan from a doctor, updated each year.

In a serious medical emergency, life-saving measures begin immediately, emergency services are called, and parents are contacted as soon as possible. Full health policies and the required forms are in the Family Handbook.

Safe Environment

All volunteers who work with children must participate in our Safe Environment Program. It is a non-negotiable part of how we protect the students entrusted to us.
